Contemporary abstract paintings of memory, place and moments.
-
Quietly observant and endlessly curious, I find meaning in small moments, places and fragments that others might overlook, transforming them into layered abstract paintings that leave room for your own memories and experiences. If you spend a little time here, I hope you'll leave looking a little more closely at the world around you.
-
My paintings are built slowly through layers of paint, collage and intuitive mark-making. Rather than beginning with a story to tell, I allow each work to reveal itself over time, following colour, texture and instinct until something familiar begins to emerge. The finished painting becomes a place where memory, place and imagination can quietly meet.
-
My past lives in a heavy mist that rarely lifts. Moments remain just out of reach, so painting has become my way of reaching for memories, real or imagined.
No painting begins with a thought. Instead, the painting sparks the thought.
“No painting begins with a thought. Instead, the painting sparks the thought.”
~ ANGELEA VAN DAM
Small Works
Not everything has to be complete. Some moments are worth keeping.
Some moments are worth keeping.
Memory Blocks are small works created alongside larger paintings, capturing colours, marks, shapes and moments that deserve a second look. Some preserve a technique discovered in the studio, while others hold onto a feeling, a rhythm or an unexpected visual connection.
Part record, part reminder, each work becomes a place to return to—a small archive of moments gathered along the way.

Materials: Created using layered mixed media including acrylic paint, spray paint, graphite, wax crayon, oil pastel, coloured pencil, chalk and collage.

Fragments are small experimental works where ideas are explored without the expectation of becoming a finished painting. They are places to test colour, composition, texture and mark-making, allowing intuition to lead the way.
Some remain exactly as they are. Others quietly find their way into larger works, carrying with them the beginning of something yet to unfold.
