Born in Wellington, New Zealand in August 1979, Angelea moved around a lot as a child, her only constant was her pillow and a treasured box of drawing implements that she used to put her imaginations to paper.
After a move to Auckland in her early teens Angelea became that arty kid at her high school, the one that did all the creative things and was super focused on becoming an architect on her entrance to the grown-up world. But alas she became disillusioned by an art teacher and decided to quit school and join the New Zealand Navy.
Joining as a Hydrographic Survey Assistant in 1996 after a promise that there would be some drawing involved, Angelea forgot about her love of art for a few years while sailing the pacific and Indian oceans participating in war games, peace keeping and becoming a navigators yeoman working with ocean charts which helped with that arty itch that started to emerge again after 5 years.
In 2005 Angelea had graduated (TAFE) with a diploma in graphic design and embarked on a 16 year career as a designer in photography studios, newspapers, boutique agencies and printing companies in both New Zealand and Australia. The work commute brought about time to sit and draw again undisturbed by household chores, children and clients that couldn’t see her vision. This reigniting of drawing came at the same era as sharing on social media was catching hold. A few photos shared of her sketchbook pages and Angelea soon found herself with an international publishing deal drawing colouring books for adults. This opportunity gave the option to live and work wherever the sea winds blew her and she settled with her family in Port Stephens in 2016 where she authored 13 best selling colouring books till the stress of it gave her the s..ts - literally!
In 2019 Angelea had her entire bowel removed due to an autoimmune disease, suspected to have been brought on by stress ‘ulcerative colitis’ that could not be put into remission. Now living with a permanent ileostomy Angelea got a new lease on life and a new artistic direction that involved movement, freedom and swathes of paint. These days you can find Angelea chilling out to Pink Floyd or etching lines reminiscent of navigation markings into layers of paint in her studio nestled into the recycling centre in Salamander Bay.
