Artist Statement.
The feelings and imagined narratives that surface when I sit with my work at completion are where each piece finds its story. I share this through the titles, offering a glimpse into that emotional space and inviting the viewer to begin their own journey. From there, the path is open—there is no right direction, only personal interpretation.
I create these works simply because I have to. Painting is my place of calm in a noisy world. My work is not political and does not carry a fixed message or prescribed meaning. Instead, it is guided by intuition, emotion and response. At its core, I create contemporary abstract mixed media paintings driven by feeling.
Adventures played out in paint.
Each artwork is built through multiple layers of paint, mark-making and collage. I begin with energetic scribbles, bold colour combinations and clashing patterns—an instinctive starting point that draws on my background in graphic design and a long-standing relationship with colour, shape and visual rhythm.
Textural paint forms and gouged line work appear throughout the layers; some marks are revealed through sanding back, while others are lost entirely. As the process unfolds, the surfaces become more refined—shapes, symbols and considered colour palettes are cut in and out, revealed and concealed, until the work reaches its own resolution. Sometimes this journey is slow and deliberate, other times it arrives quickly.
The finished paintings are like a visual travel log—records of movement, decision-making and discovery—where traces of the entire journey remain embedded beneath the surface.
